65' Display Competition - And the winner is...!

Jan 08, 2016

Following our recent competition in conjunction with Education Technology, we’re really pleased to announce that the lucky winner of our competition is Hazel Cashmore from Hillcrest School & Sixth Form Centre! She has been selected to receive an incredible 65” T-Line Touch Display for her classroom.

And the winner is: Hazel Cashmore, from Hillcrest School & Sixth Form Centre!

Congratulations to Hazel, who was chosen because she’s been working extremely hard to bring new technologies into the classroom and transform the school’s way of thinking.

Upon being told she’d won this fantastic prize, Hazel was shocked and surprised, but soon made sure the whole science department knew about it! She then got to work planning all the new interactive exercises she could bring into her lessons.

We asked Hazel a few questions about how she planned to use her new touchscreen.

Why did you enter the competition?
My current classroom is around 30 years old, and in need of a bit of an update. I joined my current school in September and have spent some time updating all of my displays. At the moment I have a smartboard in my room, but it has never worked so there is a projector to show my lessons, which means that I am unable to interact with my lesson materials at all.

What are you most looking forward to about having the new screen installed in your classroom?
I am looking forward to being able to interact with my lessons, and generally just incorporating new teaching techniques, including the ability to:

  • Write on lesson materials
  • Emphasise important facts
  • Run interactive quizzes and plenaries
  • Encouraging students to interact more

What do your pupils think?
I have only told my year 9 class so far, and they immediately went ‘Yay!’ They have said that they are looking forward to being able to use the touchscreen in lessons, and think that it will make their learning more fun and help with team work.

Do you have any plans yet as to what you might try first with it?
I have yet to decide on this, but I will be having a good think about how to introduce each class to the new capabilities of my touchscreen and ensure that my students get the most benefit.

What are you general thoughts and opinions of technology in the classroom?
I think that it is very important to use technology in the classroom, as it is another tool teachers can use to engage students. It is also important for a teacher to be seen as a role-model and be comfortable using new technologies.

Will you keep us updated about the different uses you find for the screen?
Yes, absolutely. I’m looking forward to experimenting with uses of my touchscreen, and will keep you updated.
