Fitlet-T: the AMD Mini PC for industrial applications!
Jul 19, 2017When it comes to AMD vs INTEL powered computers, the common sense is to say that graphics capabilities are better with AMD processors but processing performance is better with Intel CPUs. As a result, AMD PCs got a minority share in the industrial market… and you might just miss the right pc for your application!
An AMD Mini PC with Processing Performance
Powered by a Quad Core mobile AMD CPU based on a CPU G-series (GX-424CC 64-bit @2.4GHz, 25W TDP), Fitlet-T offers the best processing performance within our AMD range (4301 on GeekBench3). This Fanless Mini AMD PC also outperforms Intel powered mini PCs (core i3) as you can see on the performance chart below (GeekBench3 score).
This shows that you cannot always go generic. The performance of a PC will be affected by the number of cores (quad core for Fitlet-T vs dual core for IPC2 i3) and the processor's generation of course. In our case, IPC2 i3 is powered by 3rd Generation Haswell CPU (7th Generation has been released lately) whereas Fitlet-T is powered by one of the latest AMD SoC processors.
Fitlet-T: Quad Core AMD GX-424CC 64-bit @2.4GHz CPU. 25W TDP.
IPC2 i3: Dual Core Intel i3-4010U Haswell 64-bit @1.7GHz CPU. 15W TDP
Intensive Tasks & Graphics Capability
What does that mean for you? Well, thanks to its Quad Cores and multi-threading, Fitlet-T can handle CPU-intensive or multiple tasks simultaneously and smoothly. If you are rendering or encoding for example, the amount of CPU resources will be shared between all cores (hyper-threading).
Fitlet-T also offers excellent graphics capability with a Radeon R5E GPU which makes this PC the right fit for industrial, automation, CCTV and monitoring applications, involving machine to machine communications, data collection or images processing. For mobile monitoring and process control, we will recommend you to select Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB as OS.
And Price Wise?
Fitlet-T will be much more competitive than an Intel PC for the same processing performance as you can see on the chart below (barebone price taken as reference). However, if you need higher processing performance than what Fitlet-T is offering, then you will have to go for Intel core i5 or i7 (see performance chart above).
Other Differences to know?
Fitlet-T offers similar configuration to our Intel PCs. You will find the generous memory (up to 32GB DDR3), extended storage with 1x SATA up to 6 Gbps (SATA 3.0) for internal 2.5” HDD/SSD + 1x mSATA slot up to 6 Gbps (SATA 3.0) and several OS options.
It has rich I/O in a compact form factor (19cm x 16cm x 4cm). You get dual HDMI (1.4a up to 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz), dual Ethernet, 1 serial port, 2x USB 3.0, 6x USB 2.0, micro SIM slot... as well as great industrial reliability, passive cooling and 5-year warranty.
The big difference lies in the face customisation. Because AMD offers more fewer PCIE Lanes than Intel does, customisation options via Face Module are limited and we will recommend our Intel Range if you want to add POE ports, additional LAN ports or serial ports for instance.
